April 19, 2018, the day we will probably see the launch of AMD’s revised Zen+ Ryzen 2×00 series including the Ryzen 5 2600X and Ryzen 7 2700X. Prior to these important hardware release dates we see motherboard manufacturers tease their upcoming boards to the public. Today a new Asus Strix X470 board came to our attention posted by videocardz. The Asus ROG Strix X470-F Gaming brings support for the improved AMD XFR 2.0 technology and features large VRM heatsinks which predicts a beefy VRM section on this board. We see one visible M.2. slot but expect Asus to incorporate another below the large South Bridge heatsink.
At the launch of the first Ryzen cpu’s last year we saw a motherboard shortage, somewhat slowing adaption of the AM4 platform. Now a year later we hope AMD has taken precautions having learned from this past experience.
