There was a time where Crysis would bring the most badass GPU of that time the GTX 8800 Ultra to it’s knees. Now there is a new kid on the block in the form of Red Dead Redemption 2 from Rockstar that does the same to modern GPU’s.
The nice thing about Red Dead Redemption 2 is the implementation of both Direct X 12 and Vulkan API. The Vulkan API has proven especially usefull when using an AMD GPU to significantly increase performance in some games. We were for example able to reach 60 FPS on our Ryzen 3400G last week using this API. Direct X12 left us stranding 8-10 FPS lower in the same scenes.
Guru3D did some late night work and tested almost 30 Gpu’s on Ultra quality settings, 1080P, 1440P and 2160P. As it turns out you can see even the RTX 2080Ti struggles when chewing through 4K footage reaching 43FPS! Tinkering with some settings will offcourse give you playable 60FPS+ with that card but not with everything on Ultra that’s very obvious. Tomorrow we will receive our copy of the game and report back on which settings you can play RDR2 on 4k with 60FPS+
