Last week the first Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 GPU’s landed at the retailers. Only custom cards from AIB’s, no Founders Edition will be released. The Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 is positioned as a direct replacement for the GTX 1050 Ti untill a possible GTX 1650 Ti comes out. The GTX 1650 costs € 175,00 on average if we look at the Dutch price comparison with the cheapest one, the Inno3d Geforce GTX 1650 Compact @ € 149,00 and the most expensive card the Asus ROG Strix Geforce GTX 1650 OC @ € 199,00.
The GTX 1650 features a partly unlocked Turing TU117 GPU with 896 Cuda Cores, 4GB of GDDR5 memory sending data over a 128-bit memory bus.The predecessor NVidia’s Geforce GTX 1050 Ti that was released in 2017 offering a 1080P 60FPS gaming experience at a for that time extremely low power draw (@ 75 Watt).

Now in 2019 the Nvidia Turing GTX 1650 is not \welcomed with the same enthousiasm by reviewers as the GTX 1050 Ti in 2017. Rather strange or not? On paper the specs look promising as the GTX 1650 has more to offer spec wise than the GTX 1050 Ti does. Well, we silently forgot AMD’s € 150,00 Radeon RX570 4GB which is now relatively old, but old does not mean it’s underperforming!
Based upon the benchmarks that have appeared online the AMD RADEON RX 570 4GB outperforms the GTX 1650 in modern games with approximately 5-10% difference depending on the game of choice. A little sidemark here. It does that but in the meantime consumes 50% more power than the GTX 1650.
Aside from lower power consumption, the Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 is newer and is equiped with a broad variety of video de/encoding, most usefull for mediacenter purposes. Think of streaming services like Disney+ and Netlflix and H.265 HEVC coding in general offloading these tasks from the cpu.
So depending on your application, more mediacenter or a more gaming oriented focus can draw you to team green of red within more or less the same budget. Don’t forget the following in your comparison: The GTX 1650 has a TDP of 75W which means it can draw all its power from the PCI-E slot, not requiring a PSU with a 6 or 8-pin PCI-E connector. This saves you the costs of an additional PSU if your PSU hasn’t got these connectors. Therefore it al depends… In short, within a budget of € 150,00 – € 170,00 the addition of the GTX 1650 gives you a broader choice and that is always good!
